CLARK REMOVALS MOVING TIPS

Planning and Preparing for moving home

  • Supply Clark Removals with mobile or work contact numbers so that your removalist can contact you during the course of your move if you won’t be present
  • Report any pre-existing damage to any items prior to transport
  • Inform Clark Removals if there are any special requirements for any of your goods.
  • Dispose of any dangerous goods in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Clark removals will not be able to transport items that are explosive, combustible or otherwise hazardous in nature
  • Ensure that larger items can be brought into your new home. Check the access at your new home i.e. stair wells, lifts, doorways. Some items might not be able to fit into your new home

Packing Tips

Packing your home can seem overwhelming at times and its essential to pack properly and start early. We have prepared some tips below to try to make this process easier.

Removal Packing Tip #1 Start Early

Start organising and packing early. It can take much longer than you think. The last thing you want to be do is be stressed and leave it till the last minute

Tip #2 Make inventory lists and Label your boxes

Make up a list to help you record what is in each box. Devise your own system but keep it simple. I.e. You could use numbered labels and cross refer these to a list or notebook. I.e. Box labelled 5, would be referred to notebook listing contents of box number 5

Tip #3 Sturdy Removal boxes are best

Use proper removal boxes where possible. Clark Removals can supply these boxes. They can be delivered to your home prior to the move for a slightly extra fee or you can pick them up from Clark Removals.

Tip #4 Don’t over or under fill

Please ensure you do not overfill your boxes, they need to be lifter, and we don’t want them to overfill and break under the strain. Also please make sure you fill boxes and even the load.

Tip #5 Use packing tape to secure boxes

Please ensure you use proper packing take to secure your boxes. Don’t leave boxes open, as this will make it hard for the Removalist to lift them. Clark Removals can supply packing tape. See attached details of costs

Tip #6 Box Everything

A general rule of thumb is, that if it can be boxes, then it probably should be. Ensure you fill any empty spaces inside your boxes with crushed paper so these items won’t break

Tip #7 Use packing material not newspaper

It is essential you have plenty of packing paper, we suggest butchers paper and bubble wrap. Newspaper might seem like a good idea however it leaves grubby marks on your items. Again Clark Removals can supply you with butcher’s paper. See below for price and delivery details

Tip #8 Packing fragile items

With regards to your fragile items such as glass wear, crocery, its best to wrap these pieces individually and pack them upside down in the boxes. Line these boxes with extra butchers paper on the top, bottom and sides. Please ensure you label these boxes fragile so the Removalist knows to take extra care

Tip # 9 Don’t pack important documents

Remember to keep important documents aside. Ie passport, birth certificates, drivers licence. We recommend that you carry these over yourself for your own piece of mind.

Tip #10 Packing Larger items

Larger items such as tables, chairs and couches are too large to put in a box. They will be wrapped by the Removalists when they are loading your job

Tip #11

Consider colour coding your boxes by room. This can make it easier for the Removalist and yourself.

General tips

Lamps

Removal all lamp shades before the move

Fridges, Freezers and other appliances.

Remember to defrost your fridge and freezer no later than the day before your move. Idealy you should run these contents down over the last couple of weeks before you move. Please ensure you drain any appliances that might have water ie washing machines, dishwashers.

 Plants

If you have plants you may want to consider leaving these with a neighbour. Some plants are delicate and don’t travel well. If you wish to move them, make sure they are well watered, but given them enough time to dry

Beds and flat packed style furniture

Most beds need to be dismantled prior to moving. When you dismantle them, seal all screws, nuts and bolts in plastic bag. Label them clearly so you know which parts they belong to. Clark Removal’s are more than happy to assist with this process buts its best to let us know prior. Flat-packed style furniture should be dismantles prior to transit. These pieces are susceptible to damage compared with solid furniture.

Electrical appliances

We recommend that you take photos of their wiring configurations to help you identify how your electronic devices were connected previously.

Draws, and wardrobes

Please ensure you empty all drawers, wardrobes, cabinets, chests. They will be too heavy for the removalist to move with the belongs still in these. There are specific wardrobe boxes to make moving clothes easier. Please let us know if you wish to purchase. See below for price details

Access

Please ensure you have spoken to neighbours to inform them you are moving. It will make it easier and faster for the removalist if they have clear and faster access. If possible save a large car space close by for the removal truck. We understand this is difficult and we will always manage to double park.

Finally, we can reassure you that Clark Removals cares, and we will do everything in our power to make the day run smoothly. Feel free to contact us if you have any concerns. If you wish to have professional packers help you we can also organise this.
